Logistics hub Venlo on the map in China

Venlo may be a known a logistics hotspot in the Netherlands, it is still a relatively unknown destination in China. A cooperation between three parties is to change this. Chinese companies should know that the city on the Dutch-German border has everything to be the logistics hotspot of Europe.

That is at least the ambition of Cabooter Group Venlo, public development company LIOF and the China Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA). The three signed a cooperation agreement last Friday, 20 September.

20 trains per day

Venlo is not by coincidence the host town of the next European Silk Road Summit this November. Soon, a new direct line to China will be opened from the terminal of Cabooter Group. A second route is in the pipeline via the port of Baku.

Cabooter Group is currently developing the largest inland train terminal in the Netherlands at Trade Port Noord. With the rapidly increasing demand for Chinese products, the company expects that most rail terminals will not be able to handle the growing number of Chinese trains. With the new terminal, up to twenty full freight trains can be transferred every day in Venlo, according to the terminal exploiter.

Sino-Europe Logistics Park

Under the name Sino-Europe Logistics Park Venlo Region, CIPA is going to promote Venlo in China as the place for Chinese companies to serve the European market. And vice versa, to collect and ship goods destined for the Chinese market from this region. The cooperation is also open to other parties that have an interest in a stronger trade relationship between Limburg and China.

LIOF, a regional development company, initiated the collaboration to make the region more attractive to Chinese companies. Venlo was selected because of its good connections with the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, and the airports of Schiphol and Maastricht-Aachen, the organisation pointed out.

European Silk Road Summit

On 26 and 27 November the European Silk Road Summit takes place in Maasport, Venlo. This is a two-day international event dedicated to the New Silk Road. Venlo is among the central topics, with presentations about and by the region representatives.
